Enbridge Common Stock Dividend Growth over time

In this section I present information to help you decide if buying the common instead of the preferred is a better choice. There are times in the market cycle when the yield offered by the common is greater than that of the preferred. In addition the dividend of the common is usually increased on a yearly basis while for the majority of the preferreds it remains fixed for life or the 5 year period. Of course other factors should also be taken into account when making the final decision.

Enbridge common shares are currenlty yielding 7.4200% and have a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 6.6248% based on historical data starting with year 2005 to the latest year 2021. Current quarterly dividend is $0.834. Unfortunately the dividend has been not been consistently increasing over the last 17 years.

Case A. Based on the 17 year Compound Annual Growth Rate of the Enbridge dividend I calculate the future dividend for the next 5 years to be $0.890, $0.949, $1.012, $1.079, $1.150. Assuming the Stock price remains the same $45.02 over the next 5 years, the corresponding yields will be 7.91041%, 8.43446%, 8.99322%, 9.58901%, 10.22426%. The average yield over the next 5 years is expected to be 9.03028% . Use this yield when comparing to the corresponding preferred yield.

Case B. Based on the last 10 year Compound Annual Growth Rate of 11.4929% for the Enbridge dividend I calculate the future dividend for the next 5 years to be $0.930, $1.037, $1.157, $1.290, $1.438. Assuming the Stock price remains the same $45.02 over the next 5 years, the corresponding yields will be 8.27157%, 9.22221%, 10.28211%, 11.46383%, 12.78135%. The average yield over the next 5 years is expected to be 10.40422% . Use this yield when comparing to the corresponding preferred yield.

Case C. Based on the last 5 year Compound Annual Growth Rate of 4.4082% for the Enbridge dividend I calculate the future dividend for the next 5 years to be $0.871, $0.910, $0.950, $0.992, $1.035. Assuming the Stock price remains the same $45.02 over the next 5 years, the corresponding yields will be 7.74596%, 8.08742%, 8.44393%, 8.81615%, 9.20479%. The average yield over the next 5 years is expected to be 8.45965% . Use this yield when comparing to the corresponding preferred yield.
