NOTE: The data shown here is from February of 2024 and only a limited set is shown, as it is only intended as a sample. This page on the premium site is updated monthly and contains the full set of preferreds.

In the following table you can see how each preferred is being allocated among the indexies and ETFs.

  • For eah index i indicate if the preferred is part of the index or not.
  • For each ETF i show the amount of money allocated to the preferred if any.

You can also use this information to understand how ETFs allocate varying weights to different preferred securities. It is a valuable resource for investors seeking clarity in their investment decisions. ETFs employ different methodologies to determine the allocation of securities within their portfolios, with each approach aiming to achieve specific objectives.
One common method is market capitalization weighting, where securities are weighted based on their market value. In this approach, larger companies or securities with higher market capitalizations receive higher weights in the ETF’s portfolio. This method ensures that the ETF’s performance closely mirrors the performance of the overall market.
Another approach is equal weighting, where each security within the ETF is given the same weight regardless of its market capitalization. This strategy provides a more balanced exposure to all securities within the ETF’s universe and can be particularly attractive for investors seeking diversification across different companies or sectors.
Some ETFs may employ a rules-based approach to weighting, where specific criteria are used to determine the allocation of securities. For example, an ETF may allocate weights based on fundamental factors such as dividend yield, earnings growth, or financial stability.
Additionally, smart beta or factor-based ETFs may allocate weights based on specific factors such as value, momentum, or low volatility, aiming to outperform traditional market-cap-weighted indices.

The information listed in the table below should help understanding how ETFs allocate weights to preferred securities which is crucial for investors to assess the risk-return profile of their investment and ensure alignment with their investment objectives. By providing detailed insights into these allocation methodologies, the information provided can empower investors to make informed decisions when selecting ETFs for their portfolios.
